The healthy lifestyle is not simply dependent on social fads, diets or eating less treats! The foods that make us feel better, are generally based on the ingredients contained within the delicious meals we eat. Obviously, the fresher the meals, the better these ingredients taste and make us feel. At Cameron’s Kitchen, we wholeheartedly believe in fresh meals at restaurant quality that are also colourful. We have taken this into account and we tend our very own fresh herb and spices garden. This ensures that we know as much as we can about where our fresh ingredients come from. We source our other fresh ingredients from local gold coast markets, so local business is supporting local business.
How superfoods make you feel better
While there is no real definition for why a superfood is a superfood, the most common way to explain them is through their natural antioxidants and health benefits that most common meats, vegetables or fruit can’t offer- we guess they are the extra of the bunch. The antioxidants that are provided most commonly by superfoods, are warriors to fend off the common cold, or virus.
How we make our food Super
With Spring in full swing, our garden has never looked fuller. We have an abundance of superfoods within the garden that grow year-round, with several just coming into bloom now. Some of the glorious ingredients we grow are lemongrass, parsley, coriander, Thai basil, oregano, thyme, rosemary, green beans, kaffir lime leaves, chillies, lemons, tomatoes Spinach, Galangal and many more. We keep these beauties growing by taking extra care with their health so they can take care of yours!
Our favourite superfoods recipes
Some of our most popular meals are hiding their feel-good nutrients. What meals can you find these in? Our curry paste, or zingy marinade for the Thai BBQ Chicken and fried rice combo. This meal has the hidden super food- Lemongrass! We love to cook with all these fresh ingredients, although it can look odd if you aren’t used to it. Lemongrass is also known to reduce yeast and bacteria from the body, and has restorative substances such as relief of pain and swelling.
Other amazing flavour and food combos from our garden are, the use of oregano, parsley and Thai basil. These ingredients have been handpicked daily. We use the Thai Basil in our Red curry, oregano in our tomato sauce for Spaghetti Bolognese, and the parsley is used for our famous Baked Salmon with Citrus Dressing.
Speaking of which- did you know salmon is also a super food? It contains all of the important omega-3 fatty acids that help maintain our bodies physical and mental health. If that’s not enough, surprisingly, one of our most delicious desert options is also a super treat! The blueberries within the blueberry cheese cake, offers cell restoring antioxidants such as vitamin C, vitamin K and magnesium.
Finally, one of the greatest ingredients of superfoods is spinach! Spinach contains an abundance of qualities such as iron, calcium and magnesium intake, with benefits of asthma prevention, lowering blood pressure, bone, skin and hair health. So where can you find this awesome option on our menu? Within the deliciously acclaimed Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli.
Although these superfoods sound amazing, it is important to eat them in proportion to ensure a feel-good food balance. At Cameron’s Kitchen, we take care of food balance side of things. All you have to do is enjoy the benefits that our super ingredients have to offer.
